Install
Works with every agent the skills CLI supports.
npx skills add https://github.com/camacho/ai-skills --skill autonomous- 01
Install
Run the command in your project. The CLI asks which agents to install for.
- 02
Describe the task
Ask your agent for something this skill covers. It loads autonomous automatically when relevant.
- 03
Review the result
The agent follows the SKILL.md steps, scripts and references bundled with the skill.
SKILL.md
The instructions your agent reads when the skill is triggered.
Return to Autonomous Mode
Claude Code enforcement only — Codex and Cursor default to autonomous unless a future adapter uses this shared controller. Shared mode controller:
.agents/skills/autonomous/scripts/.
Shared Controller
Mode is a setting with explicit values: autonomous and copilot.
For now, this skill owns the shared mode controller because autonomous is the default and safe fallback value. /copilot is an alias that sets mode=copilot; it should not own separate mode logic.
.agents/skills/autonomous/scripts/mode.shis the sourceable mode facade for all agents and hooks..agents/skills/autonomous/scripts/set-mode.shsetsmode=autonomousormode=copilot.scripts/lib/session-state.shremains project infrastructure because status, detection, bootstrap, and hook code all use it.
Activate
REPO_ROOT="$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel)"
"$REPO_ROOT/.agents/skills/autonomous/scripts/set-mode.sh" autonomous
If the script does not exist, tell the user: "This project doesn't have mode switching scripts. You are already in autonomous mode by default."
Confirmation
After activation, print:
Mode: autonomous
Worktree enforcement active. Full workflow pipeline.
Behavior
Follow autonomous mode rules in .claude/rules/operating-mode.md.
Agents and hooks that need live mode state should source the shared helper or call scripts/session-state get mode; do not read raw mode-state files directly.
FAQ
What does the autonomous skill do?
Exit copilot mode — return to autonomous mode with full worktree enforcement.
How do I install autonomous?
Run npx skills add https://github.com/camacho/ai-skills --skill autonomous in your project. The skills CLI detects the agents you use and copies the skill into the right folder. For Claude Code you can also place the skill folder at ~/.claude/skills/autonomous/ (personal) or .claude/skills/autonomous/ (project).
Which AI agents can use autonomous?
Any agent that supports the open Agent Skills format (a folder with a SKILL.md file), including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, Cline, OpenCode and more.
Is autonomous safe to install?
No partner security audit is available yet. Skills can run commands and scripts, so read the SKILL.md and any bundled files before installing.
Who maintains autonomous?
It is published by camacho in camacho/ai-skills. It has 593 recorded installs.
