i18n & Localization
Internationalization (i18n) and Localization (L10n) best practices.
1. Core Concepts
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| i18n | Internationalization - making app translatable |
| L10n | Localization - actual translations |
| Locale | Language + Region (en-US, tr-TR) |
| RTL | Right-to-left languages (Arabic, Hebrew) |
2. When to Use i18n
| Project Type | i18n Needed? |
|---|---|
| Public web app | ✅ Yes |
| SaaS product | ✅ Yes |
| Internal tool | ⚠️ Maybe |
| Single-region app | ⚠️ Consider future |
| Personal project | ❌ Optional |
3. Implementation Patterns
React (react-i18next)
import { useTranslation } from 'react-i18next';
function Welcome() {
const { t } = useTranslation();
return <h1>{t('welcome.title')}</h1>;
}
Next.js (next-intl)
import { useTranslations } from 'next-intl';
export default function Page() {
const t = useTranslations('Home');
return <h1>{t('title')}</h1>;
}
Python (gettext)
from gettext import gettext as _
print(_("Welcome to our app"))
4. File Structure
locales/
├── en/
│ ├── common.json
│ ├── auth.json
│ └── errors.json
├── tr/
│ ├── common.json
│ ├── auth.json
│ └── errors.json
└── ar/ # RTL
└── ...
5. Best Practices
DO ✅
- Use translation keys, not raw text
- Namespace translations by feature
- Support pluralization
- Handle date/number formats per locale
- Plan for RTL from the start
- Use ICU message format for complex strings
DON'T ❌
- Hardcode strings in components
- Concatenate translated strings
- Assume text length (German is 30% longer)
- Forget about RTL layout
- Mix languages in same file
6. Common Issues
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Missing translation | Fallback to default language |
| Hardcoded strings | Use linter/checker script |
| Date format | Use Intl.DateTimeFormat |
| Number format | Use Intl.NumberFormat |
| Pluralization | Use ICU message format |
7. RTL Support
/* CSS Logical Properties */
.container {
margin-inline-start: 1rem; /* Not margin-left */
padding-inline-end: 1rem; /* Not padding-right */
}
[dir="rtl"] .icon {
transform: scaleX(-1);
}
8. Checklist
Before shipping:
- All user-facing strings use translation keys
- Locale files exist for all supported languages
- Date/number formatting uses Intl API
- RTL layout tested (if applicable)
- Fallback language configured
- No hardcoded strings in components
Script
The bundled checker is a heuristic, capped at 50 sorted source files. It uses English-biased regexes and directory-based JSON locale grouping; gettext catalogs and messages/en.json layouts are not fully checked for key parity. Report actual sampled/discovered counts and parse failures; a clean sample does not certify completeness, translation quality or accessibility. Mirror only directional icons for RTL (for example navigation arrows), not every logo, image or media control.
| Script | Purpose | Command |
|---|---|---|
scripts/i18n_checker.py | Detect hardcoded strings & missing translations | python scripts/i18n_checker.py <project_path> |
When to Use
This skill is applicable to execute the workflow or actions described in the overview.
Limitations
- Use this skill only when the task clearly matches the scope described above.
- Do not treat the output as a substitute for environment-specific validation, testing, or expert review.
- Stop and ask for clarification if required inputs, permissions, safety boundaries, or success criteria are missing.
FAQ
What does the i18n-localization skill do?
Internationalization and localization patterns. Detecting hardcoded strings, managing translations, locale files, RTL support.
How do I install i18n-localization?
Run npx skills add https://github.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill i18n-localization in your project. The skills CLI detects the agents you use and copies the skill into the right folder. For Claude Code you can also place the skill folder at ~/.claude/skills/i18n-localization/ (personal) or .claude/skills/i18n-localization/ (project).
Which AI agents can use i18n-localization?
Any agent that supports the open Agent Skills format (a folder with a SKILL.md file), including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, Cline, OpenCode and more.
Is i18n-localization safe to install?
Security partners have reviewed it: Gen Agent Trust Hub passed; Socket passed; Snyk passed. As with any skill, read the SKILL.md and bundled scripts before installing.
Who maintains i18n-localization?

google-agents-cli-publish
google/agents-cli
This skill should be used when the user wants to "publish an agent", "publish my ADK agent", "register an agent with Gemini", "publish to Gemini" (formerly Gemini Enterprise), or needs guidance on the agents-cli publish gemini command. Also use when the user wants to "manage agents in Agent Registry", "list/update/delete registered agents", or "register an MCP server". Covers ADK vs A2A registration modes, programmatic and interactive usage, flag reference, auto-detection from deployment metadata, Agent Registry fleet management, and troubleshooting. Part of the agents-cli skills suite. Do NOT use for deployment (use google-agents-cli-deploy).
google-agents-cli-eval
google/agents-cli
This skill should be used when the user wants to "run an evaluation", "evaluate my agent", "evaluate my ADK agent", "write an eval dataset", "analyze eval failures", "compare eval results", "optimize agent", or needs guidance on the Gemini platform eval methodology and the Quality Flywheel. Covers eval metrics, dataset schema, LLM-as-judge scoring, and common failure causes. Applies to any agents-cli project, whatever framework the agent is written in. Do NOT use for agent API code patterns (ADK: use google-agents-cli-adk-code), deployment (use google-agents-cli-deploy), or project scaffolding (use google-agents-cli-scaffold).

codex-pet
prime-skills/runcomfy-agent-skills
Codex Pet generator on RunComfy. Build a Codex-compatible Codex Pet spritesheet.webp + pet.json from a single reference image, drop it into ${CODEXHOME:-$HOME/.codex}/pets/ / and Codex picks it up as a custom Codex Pet next to the 8 built-ins. This skill produces the exact Codex Pet atlas Codex expects (1536x1872 PNG/WebP, 8 cols x 9 rows, 192x208 cells, 9 animation states — idle, running-right, running-left, waving, jumping, failed, waiting, running, review). Calls OpenAI GPT Image 2 edit ONCE via the local RunComfy CLI as runcomfy run openai/gpt-image-2/edit to produce a canonical Codex Pet pose, then assembles all 9 animation rows programmatically with ImageMagick micro-transforms — no Codex Pro, no $imagegen, no OPENAIAPIKEY required, only RUNCOMFYTOKEN. Triggers on "codex pet", "create codex pet", "make codex pet", "hatch codex pet", "/hatch image", "desktop pet codex", "codex pets", "spritesheet.webp", or any explicit ask to build a custom pet for OpenAI Codex.
