github-copilot-personal-instructions
Add or audit GitHub Copilot personal custom instructions — the per-user prompt configured at github.com/copilot that applies to every Copilot Chat conversation that account has on github.com. Covers where to set them, what they do and don't apply to (github.com Chat only — not IDE, not mobile, not coding agent), how they merge with repository and organization instructions, and verification. Use when the user says "set personal Copilot instructions", "configure my Copilot", "Copilot keeps responding in the wrong language", "make Copilot use my preferred tone", "personal Copilot prompt", "user-level Copilot config", "Copilot is ignoring my preferences", or invokes /github-copilot-personal-instructions. Do NOT use for repository-scoped instructions — that is /github-copilot-repo-instructions.

Install
Works with every agent the skills CLI supports.
npx skills add https://github.com/paulnsorensen/skillz-that-grillz --skill github-copilot-personal-instructions- 01
Install
Run the command in your project. The CLI asks which agents to install for.
- 02
Describe the task
Ask your agent for something this skill covers. It loads github-copilot-personal-instructions automatically when relevant.
- 03
Review the result
The agent follows the SKILL.md steps, scripts and references bundled with the skill.
SKILL.md
The instructions your agent reads when the skill is triggered.
github-copilot-personal-instructions
Per-user Copilot Chat preferences set on github.com. Applies to every repository that account uses Copilot Chat against, but only on github.com.
Where they live
- Open github.com/copilot.
- Click your profile picture in the bottom-left.
- Choose Personal instructions.
- Click the lightbulb icon for templates, or paste your own markdown.
- Click Save.
Active immediately. They persist until edited or removed.
Where they apply
| Surface | Applies? |
|---|---|
| Copilot Chat on github.com | Yes |
| Copilot Chat on Mobile | No |
| Copilot Chat in IDE (VS Code, JetBrains, Visual Studio, Xcode, Eclipse) | No |
| Copilot code review | No |
| Copilot coding agent (cloud agent) | No |
Implication: for IDE chat or the coding agent to follow the same
guidance, mirror the relevant rules into repository instructions
(/github-copilot-repo-instructions).
Precedence
All three layers — when present — are merged and sent to Copilot together. Stated priority order (highest → lowest):
- Personal (this skill).
- Repository (
/github-copilot-repo-instructions). - Organization.
Conflicts are not auto-resolved. If a repo's guidance contradicts personal preferences, Copilot sees both. To debug, temporarily clear one layer.
What pulls its weight
Personal instructions are best for things that are about you, not about the project:
- Response language:
Always respond in Spanish. - Tone and verbosity:
Use a collegial tone. Keep explanations brief but include enough context to understand the code. - Default code style for examples:
Always provide examples in TypeScript. - Prior knowledge:
Assume I'm comfortable with Rust ownership; skip the basics. - Format preferences:
Prefer fenced code blocks over inline snippets.
Don't put project conventions here — those go in repository instructions so your whole team benefits.
Verification
There's no surfaced UI signal beyond "saved". To verify they're applied:
- Save a distinctive instruction (e.g.
Always end responses with the word "verified".). - Ask Copilot Chat on github.com any question.
- Confirm the marker appears in the reply.
- Remove or restore the real instruction.
If the marker doesn't appear, the most likely cause is surface mismatch — you're testing in the IDE, mobile, or against the coding agent.
Audit checklist
When the user says "audit my personal Copilot config":
- Walk them to github.com/copilot → profile pic → Personal instructions.
- Read out the current text and check:
- Is anything project-specific? Hoist to repo instructions.
- Does anything contradict known repo or org instructions?
- Is anything secret or sensitive? Treat the textbox as moderately sensitive — no tokens, API keys, or internal URLs.
- If the user reports "Copilot ignores my preferences", check which surface they're using — IDE/mobile/coding-agent will not honor personal instructions.
This skill cannot read or edit personal instructions programmatically — they live in GitHub user settings, not in a repo. The skill walks the user through the UI.
Rules
- github.com Chat only. Don't promise IDE behavior.
- Don't store secrets. No tokens, no API keys, no internal URLs.
- Keep them about you, not the project. Project guidance belongs in
/github-copilot-repo-instructions. - No documented length limit, but the same "be concise" rule applies — long prompts crowd out the actual question.
Gotchas
- IDE chat reads repository instructions but not personal — a common surprise when developers edit personal instructions and see no IDE change.
- Personal instructions can mask repo guidance. If a teammate says "Copilot follows our rules" and you say "no it doesn't", check whether your personal instructions contradict the repo file.
- Mobile and IDE Copilot Chat are separate apps from github.com Chat — same brand, different config surface.
- Copilot coding agent runs from issues and does not consult personal instructions; expect repo instructions to be the only knob there.
- Saving an empty Personal instructions box clears them. Keep a copy somewhere else if your prompt is non-trivial.
What this skill is not
- Not repository-scoped — see
/github-copilot-repo-instructions. - Not org-scoped — those are configured by org admins in GitHub Enterprise settings.
- Not IDE settings — VS Code's
github.copilot.chat.*settings are separate and outside this skill.

skillz
paulnsorensen/skillz-that-grillz
Add, improve, audit, wedge, or autoimprove a skill. Improve and audit also accept a sub-agent definition. The result runs predictably on Claude Code, Codex, OMP, and other Agent Skills hosts. Use for /skillz , "improve this skill", "autoimprove this skill", "optimize this skill", "tighten this skill", "audit this agent", "new skill for X", "skill not triggering", "fix trigger rate", "wedge this", "turn this repeated work into a CLI", or "what in this skill should be a CLI". Do NOT use for CLAUDE.md or system-prompt edits, or for code changes that a cheese pipeline skill owns.
gh
paulnsorensen/skillz-that-grillz
Complete GitHub tasks using the gh CLI — pull request inspection, review, and merge, issues, CI checks, releases, workflow runs, code search, repo and label management. Use when the user says "merge PR", "check CI", "list issues", "review PR", "PR status", "close issue", "trigger workflow", "view release", "search repos", or invokes /gh. Use git (log, diff, status) for read-only local context only. Do NOT use for committing, staging, pushing, or PR creation — use /plate for those. Do NOT use for code-quality review — use a dedicated review skill.
prek
paulnsorensen/skillz-that-grillz
Onboard prek (Rust-powered pre-commit) into any project and suggest hooks tailored to the language/framework. Use when the user says "add prek", "set up pre-commit hooks", "configure prek", "what hooks should I use", or when you notice a project without a prek.toml that would benefit from pre-commit checks. Also trigger when the user wants to add new hooks to an existing prek.toml, audit their hook config, or migrate from pre-commit to prek. Covers Rust, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, Ruby, and Shell projects. Do NOT use for husky, lint-staged, or CI pipeline hook configuration — this skill is specifically for prek.
chezmoi
paulnsorensen/skillz-that-grillz
Manage dotfiles with chezmoi — the source-state dotfile manager that uses filename attributes (dot, private, encrypted, runonce), Go templates, and password-manager integration to keep one set of dotfiles working across many machines. Use when the user says "set up dotfiles", "manage my dotfiles", "bootstrap a new machine", "chezmoi", "encrypt my SSH key in dotfiles", "template dotfiles per OS", "add secrets to dotfiles", "what should be in my .chezmoi.toml.tmpl", or asks how to share configs across macOS / Linux / servers. Also trigger when the user is staring at a fresh machine and wants the one-liner that gets them home, or when they're about to commit something sensitive into a dotfiles repo. Do NOT use for stow / yadm / rcm or other dotfile managers, generic git repo setup, or password-manager setup unrelated to dotfiles.
copilot
paulnsorensen/skillz-that-grillz
Use when the user says "copilot review", "review with copilot", "delegate to copilot", "have copilot fix this", "copilot agent task", "set up copilot", "generate copilot instructions", "bootstrap copilot for this repo", or invokes /copilot. Three modes: review (run a code review on a PR and route fixes to Copilot via inline @copilot fix this comments), delegate (create a gh agent-task, poll until the coding agent opens a PR, optionally hand off to review), and setup (one-time bootstrap that writes .github/copilot-instructions.md and the per-role .github/instructions/.instructions.md files). review and delegate are routine; setup is a one-time repo bootstrap loaded on demand from references/setup.md only when the user explicitly asks. Do NOT use for plain GitHub PR work — that is /gh's job.
Popular ai & agents skills
google-agents-cli-publish
google/agents-cli
This skill should be used when the user wants to "publish an agent", "publish my ADK agent", "register an agent with Gemini", "publish to Gemini" (formerly Gemini Enterprise), or needs guidance on the agents-cli publish gemini command. Also use when the user wants to "manage agents in Agent Registry", "list/update/delete registered agents", or "register an MCP server". Covers ADK vs A2A registration modes, programmatic and interactive usage, flag reference, auto-detection from deployment metadata, Agent Registry fleet management, and troubleshooting. Part of the agents-cli skills suite. Do NOT use for deployment (use google-agents-cli-deploy).
google-agents-cli-eval
google/agents-cli
This skill should be used when the user wants to "run an evaluation", "evaluate my agent", "evaluate my ADK agent", "write an eval dataset", "analyze eval failures", "compare eval results", "optimize agent", or needs guidance on the Gemini platform eval methodology and the Quality Flywheel. Covers eval metrics, dataset schema, LLM-as-judge scoring, and common failure causes. Applies to any agents-cli project, whatever framework the agent is written in. Do NOT use for agent API code patterns (ADK: use google-agents-cli-adk-code), deployment (use google-agents-cli-deploy), or project scaffolding (use google-agents-cli-scaffold).
skill-creator
anthropics/skills
Create new skills, modify and improve existing skills, and measure skill performance. Use when users want to create a skill from scratch, edit, or optimize an existing skill, run evals to test a skill, benchmark skill performance with variance analysis, or optimize a skill's description for better triggering accuracy.
codex-pet
prime-skills/runcomfy-agent-skills
Codex Pet generator on RunComfy. Build a Codex-compatible Codex Pet spritesheet.webp + pet.json from a single reference image, drop it into ${CODEXHOME:-$HOME/.codex}/pets/ / and Codex picks it up as a custom Codex Pet next to the 8 built-ins. This skill produces the exact Codex Pet atlas Codex expects (1536x1872 PNG/WebP, 8 cols x 9 rows, 192x208 cells, 9 animation states — idle, running-right, running-left, waving, jumping, failed, waiting, running, review). Calls OpenAI GPT Image 2 edit ONCE via the local RunComfy CLI as runcomfy run openai/gpt-image-2/edit to produce a canonical Codex Pet pose, then assembles all 9 animation rows programmatically with ImageMagick micro-transforms — no Codex Pro, no $imagegen, no OPENAIAPIKEY required, only RUNCOMFYTOKEN. Triggers on "codex pet", "create codex pet", "make codex pet", "hatch codex pet", "/hatch image", "desktop pet codex", "codex pets", "spritesheet.webp", or any explicit ask to build a custom pet for OpenAI Codex.
full-output-enforcement
leonxlnx/taste-skill
Overrides default LLM truncation behavior. Enforces complete code generation, bans placeholder patterns, and handles token-limit splits cleanly. Apply to any task requiring exhaustive, unabridged output.
