Works with every agent the skills CLI supports.
npx skills add https://github.com/databricks/databricks-agent-skills --skill databricks-jobs- 01
Install
Run the command in your project. The CLI asks which agents to install for.
- 02
Describe the task
Ask your agent for something this skill covers. It loads databricks-jobs automatically when relevant.
- 03
Review the result
The agent follows the SKILL.md steps, scripts and references bundled with the skill.
SKILL.md
The instructions your agent reads when the skill is triggered.
Lakeflow Jobs Development
FIRST: Use the parent databricks-core skill for CLI basics, authentication, profile selection, and data exploration commands.
Compute: jobs run on serverless by default. Before you choose compute or write any cluster setting, use the
databricks-serverless skill; it decides serverless or classic and the performance mode.
Lakeflow Jobs orchestrate data workflows with multi-task DAGs, flexible triggers, and comprehensive monitoring. Jobs support diverse task types and can be managed via Declarative Automation Bundles (DABs), Python SDK, or CLI.
Reference Files
| Use Case | Reference File |
|---|---|
| Configure task types (notebook, Python, SQL, dbt, pipeline, JAR, run_job, for_each) | references/task-types.md |
| Set up triggers and schedules (cron, periodic, file arrival, table update, continuous) | references/triggers-schedules.md |
| Configure notifications, health rules, retries, timeouts, queues | references/notifications-monitoring.md |
| Complete worked examples (ETL, warehouse refresh, event-driven, ML training, multi-env, streaming, cross-job) | references/examples.md |
Scaffolding a New Job Project
Use databricks bundle init with a config file to scaffold non-interactively. This creates a project in the <project_name>/ directory:
databricks bundle init default-python --config-file <(echo '{"project_name": "my_job", "include_job": "yes", "include_pipeline": "no", "include_python": "yes", "serverless": "yes"}') --profile <PROFILE> < /dev/null
project_name: letters, numbers, underscores only
bundle init also creates an AGENTS.md in the project. Customize that file for the project
instead of creating new agent instruction files.

Compute Configuration
Serverless is the default. Leave out cluster settings (job_clusters, new_cluster, job_cluster_key,
existing_cluster_id); a notebook, Python script, wheel or JAR task without them runs on serverless.
SQL tasks, and the SQL of dbt tasks, run on a SQL warehouse (warehouse_id, see
Task Types); a pipeline task runs on the pipeline's own compute
(serverless: true in the pipeline), and the job's performance_target sets its mode.
If creating or running the job fails because serverless is not available in the workspace, put the
whole job on classic and say so (job clusters for the tasks that run on job compute).
For everything else about compute, use the databricks-serverless skill: the performance mode
(performance_target), libraries (environments), existing code that may not run on serverless, and
the few workloads that need a classic cluster. If that skill is not installed, run
databricks aitools install. Either way, set performance_target on every job: STANDARD to optimize
cost, PERFORMANCE_OPTIMIZED when the job is time-sensitive, interactive, or other workloads depend on it.
Job Parameters
Parameters defined at job level are passed to ALL tasks (no need to repeat per task):
parameters:
- name: env
default: "dev"
- name: date
default: "{{start_date}}" # Dynamic value reference
Access in notebooks:
catalog = dbutils.widgets.get("env")
load_date = dbutils.widgets.get("date")
Pass to specific tasks:
tasks:
- task_key: my_task
notebook_task:
notebook_path: ../src/notebook.py
base_parameters:
env: "{{job.parameters.env}}"
custom_param: "value"

Common Issues
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Serverless job startup slow | performance_target: PERFORMANCE_OPTIMIZED; see databricks-serverless |
| Task dependencies not working | Verify task_key references match exactly in depends_on |
| Schedule not triggering | Check pause_status: UNPAUSED and valid timezone |
| File arrival not detecting | Ensure path has proper permissions and uses cloud storage URL |
| Table update trigger missing events | Verify Unity Catalog table and proper grants |
| Parameter not accessible | Use dbutils.widgets.get() in notebooks |
admins group error | Cannot modify admins permissions on jobs |
| Serverless task fails | See the Common Issues of databricks-serverless (libraries, RDD code, DBFS mounts) |

FAQ
What does the databricks-jobs skill do?
Develop and deploy Lakeflow Jobs on Databricks via DABs, Python SDK, or the CLI. Use when creating data engineering jobs with notebooks, Python wheels, SQL, dbt, or pipelines. Invoke BEFORE starting implementation. For compute (serverless, performance mode, classic), also use databricks-serverless.
How do I install databricks-jobs?
Run npx skills add https://github.com/databricks/databricks-agent-skills --skill databricks-jobs in your project. The skills CLI detects the agents you use and copies the skill into the right folder. For Claude Code you can also place the skill folder at ~/.claude/skills/databricks-jobs/ (personal) or .claude/skills/databricks-jobs/ (project).
Which AI agents can use databricks-jobs?
Any agent that supports the open Agent Skills format (a folder with a SKILL.md file), including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, Cline, OpenCode and more.
Is databricks-jobs safe to install?
No partner security audit is available yet. Skills can run commands and scripts, so read the SKILL.md and any bundled files before installing.
Who maintains databricks-jobs?
It is published by databricks in databricks/databricks-agent-skills. It has 957 recorded installs.

databricks-core
databricks/databricks-agent-skills
Databricks CLI operations and the parent/entry-point skill for Databricks CLI use: authentication, profile selection, and bundles. Load this first for CLI, auth, profile, and bundle tasks, then load the matching product skill. For finding or exploring data, answering questions about the data, or generating SQL, load the databricks-data-discovery skill (it routes to Genie One). databricks-apps
databricks/databricks-agent-skills
Build apps on Databricks Apps platform. Use when asked to create data apps, analytics tools, or custom interactive visualizations. A plain "create a dashboard" request means a managed AI/BI (Lakeview) dashboard → use databricks-aibi-dashboards, not this skill. Evaluates data access patterns (analytics vs Lakebase synced tables) before scaffolding. Invoke BEFORE starting implementation.
databricks-pipelines
databricks/databricks-agent-skills
Develop Lakeflow Spark Declarative Pipelines (formerly Delta Live Tables) on Databricks. Use when building batch or streaming data pipelines with Python or SQL, including Auto CDC from event streams or periodic complete snapshots. Invoke BEFORE starting implementation.
databricks-lakebase
databricks/databricks-agent-skills
Databricks Lakebase Postgres: projects, scaling, connectivity, Lakebase synced tables, and Data API. Use when asked about Lakebase databases, OLTP storage, or connecting apps to Postgres on Databricks.
databricks-dabs
databricks/databricks-agent-skills
Create, configure, validate, deploy, run, and manage Declarative Automation Bundles (DABs, formerly Databricks Asset Bundles). Use when working with Databricks resources via DABs including dashboards, jobs, pipelines, alerts, volumes, and apps.
databricks-model-serving
databricks/databricks-agent-skills
Databricks Model Serving endpoint lifecycle and ops. Use when asked to: CRUD serving endpoints (CLI or MLflow Deployments client); configure traffic routing for A/B / canary deploys and zero-downtime version swaps; retrieve OpenAPI schemas; inspect logs, metrics, or permissions; manage legacy AI Gateway rate limits (not Unity Gateway); discover Foundation Model API endpoints at runtime; integrate endpoints into Databricks Apps; or stream from off-platform clients (Vercel AI SDK v6, standalone Node.js). NOT for: Unity Gateway CRUD and management (databricks-unity-gateway), training, MLflow autologging, UC registration, custom PyFunc/ResponsesAgent authoring (databricks-ml-training); Knowledge Assistants/Supervisor Agents (databricks-agent-bricks); MLflow evaluation (databricks-mlflow-evaluation).
Popular data & databases skills
supabase-postgres-best-practices
supabase/agent-skills
Postgres best practices maintained by Supabase, for Postgres running anywhere. Load this skill BEFORE writing or changing anything that lives in a Postgres database: creating or altering tables and columns (including choosing column types), schema design, migrations and declarative schema files, RLS policies and the tests that verify them, indexes, triggers, database functions, queues and scheduled jobs (pgcron, pgmq), vector/semantic search (pgvector), and restoring dumps (pgrestore) or importing data. Also load it when diagnosing slow queries, high CPU, timeouts, EXPLAIN plans, connection exhaustion, locking, bloat, or rows visible to the wrong user or tenant. This is not just a performance guide — schema, migration, security, and SQL authoring tasks need these rules too, even for a one-column change or a single query.
