write-code-eval
Write code evaluators for known failure modes with objective rules. Use when code can check the rule from a trace, with or without a reference answer. Use write-judge-prompt when the rule requires interpretation.

Install
Works with every agent the skills CLI supports.
npx skills add https://github.com/ai-evals-course/evals-skills --skill write-code-eval- 01
Install
Run the command in your project. The CLI asks which agents to install for.
- 02
Describe the task
Ask your agent for something this skill covers. It loads write-code-eval automatically when relevant.
- 03
Review the result
The agent follows the SKILL.md steps, scripts and references bundled with the skill.
SKILL.md
The instructions your agent reads when the skill is triggered.
Write a code evaluator
Start with a failure mode found through error analysis. Write one check for that failure mode, much like a unit test that asserts what should hold for each trace.
- State the rule and identify the trace fields or reference data the check needs. If the rule requires interpretation, use
write-judge-prompt. - Implement the check in the project's language and eval framework. Return a result and a reason in the format that framework expects.
- Test known passes and failures, including borderline cases. Run the check on available traces and inspect mistakes. If the rule uses a proxy for human judgment, compare its results with human labels.
Examples
| Failure mode | Possible check |
|---|---|
| Invalid output structure | Parse the output and check required fields |
| Missing or forbidden text | Match a string or pattern |
| Citation not in retrieved documents | Compare cited IDs with retrieved IDs |
| Bad tool call | Check arguments against the tool schema or run the call in a safe test environment |
| Wrong value | Compare the output with a reference value |
Choose the check from the failure rule. For a failure with both objective and interpretive parts, check the objective part with code and use a judge for the rest.
FAQ
What does the write-code-eval skill do?
Write code evaluators for known failure modes with objective rules. Use when code can check the rule from a trace, with or without a reference answer. Use write-judge-prompt when the rule requires interpretation.
How do I install write-code-eval?
Run npx skills add https://github.com/ai-evals-course/evals-skills --skill write-code-eval in your project. The skills CLI detects the agents you use and copies the skill into the right folder. For Claude Code you can also place the skill folder at ~/.claude/skills/write-code-eval/ (personal) or .claude/skills/write-code-eval/ (project).
Which AI agents can use write-code-eval?
Any agent that supports the open Agent Skills format (a folder with a SKILL.md file), including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, Cline, OpenCode and more.
Is write-code-eval safe to install?
No partner security audit is available yet. Skills can run commands and scripts, so read the SKILL.md and any bundled files before installing.
Who maintains write-code-eval?
It is published by ai-evals-course in ai-evals-course/evals-skills. It has 363 recorded installs.

validate-evaluator
ai-evals-course/evals-skills
Calibrate an LLM judge against human labels using data splits, TPR/TNR, and bias correction. Use after writing a judge prompt (write-judge-prompt) when you need to verify alignment before trusting its outputs. Do NOT use for code-based evaluators (those are deterministic; test with unit tests per write-code-eval).
write-judge-prompt
ai-evals-course/evals-skills
Design LLM-as-Judge evaluators for subjective criteria that code-based checks cannot handle. Use when a failure mode requires interpretation (tone, faithfulness, relevance, completeness). Do NOT use when the failure mode can be checked with code (regex, schema validation, execution tests); use write-code-eval. To validate an existing judge, use validate-evaluator.
error-discovery
ai-evals-course/evals-skills
Run error analysis on a dataset. Build a review UI, select diverse samples, monitor annotations, and organize failure modes.
eval-audit
ai-evals-course/evals-skills
Audit an LLM eval pipeline and surface problems: missing error analysis, unvalidated judges, vanity metrics, etc. Use when inheriting an eval system, when unsure whether evals are trustworthy, or as a starting point when no eval infrastructure exists. Do NOT use when the goal is to build a new evaluator from scratch (use error-discovery, write-judge-prompt, or validate-evaluator instead).
generate-synthetic-data
ai-evals-course/evals-skills
Create diverse synthetic test inputs for LLM pipeline evaluation using dimension-based tuple generation. Use when bootstrapping an eval dataset, when real user data is sparse, or when stress-testing specific failure hypotheses. Do NOT use when you already have 100+ representative real traces (use stratified sampling instead), or when the task is collecting production logs.
build-review-interface
ai-evals-course/evals-skills
Build a custom browser-based annotation interface tailored to your data for reviewing LLM traces and collecting structured feedback. Use when you need to build an annotation tool, review traces, or collect human labels.

google-agents-cli-publish
google/agents-cli
This skill should be used when the user wants to "publish an agent", "publish my ADK agent", "register an agent with Gemini", "publish to Gemini" (formerly Gemini Enterprise), or needs guidance on the agents-cli publish gemini command. Also use when the user wants to "manage agents in Agent Registry", "list/update/delete registered agents", or "register an MCP server". Covers ADK vs A2A registration modes, programmatic and interactive usage, flag reference, auto-detection from deployment metadata, Agent Registry fleet management, and troubleshooting. Part of the agents-cli skills suite. Do NOT use for deployment (use google-agents-cli-deploy).
google-agents-cli-eval
google/agents-cli
This skill should be used when the user wants to "run an evaluation", "evaluate my agent", "evaluate my ADK agent", "write an eval dataset", "analyze eval failures", "compare eval results", "optimize agent", or needs guidance on the Gemini platform eval methodology and the Quality Flywheel. Covers eval metrics, dataset schema, LLM-as-judge scoring, and common failure causes. Applies to any agents-cli project, whatever framework the agent is written in. Do NOT use for agent API code patterns (ADK: use google-agents-cli-adk-code), deployment (use google-agents-cli-deploy), or project scaffolding (use google-agents-cli-scaffold).

Create new skills, modify and improve existing skills, and measure skill performance. Use when users want to create a skill from scratch, edit, or optimize an existing skill, run evals to test a skill, benchmark skill performance with variance analysis, or optimize a skill's description for better triggering accuracy.
codex-pet
prime-skills/runcomfy-agent-skills
Codex Pet generator on RunComfy. Build a Codex-compatible Codex Pet spritesheet.webp + pet.json from a single reference image, drop it into ${CODEXHOME:-$HOME/.codex}/pets/ / and Codex picks it up as a custom Codex Pet next to the 8 built-ins. This skill produces the exact Codex Pet atlas Codex expects (1536x1872 PNG/WebP, 8 cols x 9 rows, 192x208 cells, 9 animation states — idle, running-right, running-left, waving, jumping, failed, waiting, running, review). Calls OpenAI GPT Image 2 edit ONCE via the local RunComfy CLI as runcomfy run openai/gpt-image-2/edit to produce a canonical Codex Pet pose, then assembles all 9 animation rows programmatically with ImageMagick micro-transforms — no Codex Pro, no $imagegen, no OPENAIAPIKEY required, only RUNCOMFYTOKEN. Triggers on "codex pet", "create codex pet", "make codex pet", "hatch codex pet", "/hatch image", "desktop pet codex", "codex pets", "spritesheet.webp", or any explicit ask to build a custom pet for OpenAI Codex.
