MCP Analyzer

A powerful tool for analyzing, planning, and enhancing projects with MCP (Model Context Protocol) tools. This tool helps developers understand their project structure, detect technologies and frameworks, and get recommendations for appropriate MCP tools.

Features

  • Project Analysis: Automatically detects programming languages, frameworks, and features in your project
  • Project Planning: Helps plan new projects with appropriate MCP tools and configurations
  • Project Enhancement: Suggests and adds MCP tools based on new requirements
  • Smart Detection: Identifies project features like authentication, databases, APIs, and more
  • Configurable: Customizable scanning limits and detection rules
  • Cursor Integration: Works as an MCP server within the Cursor editor

Installation

As a global command-line tool:

npm install -g mcp-analyzer

For use with Cursor:

# Install globally to use with Cursor
npm install -g mcp-analyzer

# Configure Cursor to use mcp-analyzer
# Cursor will automatically detect the MCP server

Usage

Project Analysis

Analyze an existing project to detect technologies and recommend MCP tools:

mcp-analyzer analyze /path/to/project

Project Planning

Get recommendations for a new project:

mcp-analyzer plan "A full-stack web application with React frontend and Node.js backend" /path/to/new/project

Project Enhancement

Add new MCP tools to an existing project:

mcp-analyzer enhance /path/to/project "Add real-time features and testing infrastructure"

Cursor Integration

MCP Analyzer can be used directly within the Cursor editor as an MCP server, providing in-editor project analysis, planning, and enhancement capabilities.

Setting Up Cursor Integration

  1. Install MCP Analyzer globally:

    npm install -g mcp-analyzer

  2. Restart Cursor or reload the window

  3. Cursor will automatically detect the MCP server. You should see "cursor-project-assistant" in the list of available MCP tools.

Using MCP Analyzer in Cursor

Once configured, you can use the MCP Analyzer tools directly in Cursor:

  1. Open Cursor editor
  2. Access the MCP menu (typically in the bottom bar or through the command palette)
  3. Select "cursor-project-assistant"
  4. Choose one of the available tools:
    • analyze_project: To analyze your current project
    • plan_project: To plan a new project with appropriate MCP tools
    • enhance_project: To enhance your project with new MCP tools based on new requirements

Example Prompts

You can use the following prompts in Cursor:

  • "Analyze my current project to recommend MCP tools"
  • "I want to create a new React Native application with authentication and Firebase integration. Help me plan the project structure."
  • "I need to add real-time chat functionality to my MERN stack app. Suggest MCP tools that can help."

Configuration

The tool can be configured through the following files:

  • .cursor/mcp.json: MCP server configuration
  • .cursor/rules/project_rules.json: Project-specific rules
  • src/config/project-scan.ts: Scanning and detection settings
